Stem cells are characterized by the ability to form many cell types, and the scientific community anticipates that the cells will be useful for the treatment of a wide variety of diseases and conditions including brain injury. Jacob has been treated with stem cell therapy and, like most of the other therapies, this will be an ongoing treatment and results will be slow-coming. He was given the stem cells intravenously and by subcutaneous injection in his thighs. The procedure is being used in other countries and I feel this is a very promising and safe therapy for our brain injured children.
